Recently, the World Reuse & Recycling Forum – Batteries | Automotive | Electronics, hosted by Switzerland-based ICM Company, was held in Shanghai. Hunan Vary Tech Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Vary Tech) was specially invited by the organizer and delivered a keynote speech themed "Credible Traceability and High-Quality Closed Loop: Vary Tech’s Innovative Practices in Full-Link Physical and Chemical Recycling of Waste Home Appliance PCR".

The summit gathered experts, scholars and enterprise representatives from 25 countries and regions including China, the United States, Germany and Japan. The participants conducted in-depth exchanges on key topics such as cutting-edge technologies, development trends and industrial chain collaboration in the recycling of batteries, automotive and electronic waste.

The global e-waste crisis is becoming increasingly severe. In 2022, the world generated 62 billion kilograms of e-waste, with a growth rate nearly five times the formal recycling rate. Currently, only about 22.3% of e-waste is disposed of in an environmentally compliant manner, and most of it still circulates through informal channels. However, every ton of e-waste is a high-grade "urban mine". Driven by the era missions such as the "dual carbon goals", ESG green transformation and mandatory use of recycled materials, efficient and high-quality exploitation of "urban mines" has become the core task of the industry’s development.
With 20 years of industrial accumulation and technological innovation capabilities in the field of solid waste resource utilization, Vary Tech has proposed an innovative practice of complementary full-link physical recycling and chemical recycling of waste home appliance PCR.
Vary Tech has continuously iterated and upgraded its technologies in the field of waste home appliance recycling and dismantling, and has now reached the 7th-generation technology. The processing capacity of its core equipment has increased from 40 units per hour to 200 units per hour. At the same time, Vary Tech has continuously improved the value of recycled products such as copper, aluminum, iron and plastics by introducing technologies such as air separation and AI recognition. Vary Tech has provided more than 150 sets of waste home appliance recycling and dismantling production lines for global customers, with a cumulative dismantling volume of 130 million units of waste home appliances.

In 2018, Vary Tech built its own high-quality PCR recycled plastic utilization factory to promote the high-quality utilization of waste home appliance plastics. At present, the factory has achieved an annual crushing, cleaning and granulation capacity of 50,000 tons, producing series products such as rHIPS, rABS, rPP and rAS, with a color difference ΔE < 0.3 and a purity of 99%. In 2024, the "digital and intelligent credible traceability" system built by the factory has greatly improved the high quality and trustworthiness of PCR recycled plastics through digital "traceability + monitoring". This system has become a key support for helping international brands and downstream customers realize the compliant use of recycled plastics and effectively prove green supply chains.
Song Zhen, Deputy General Manager of Vary Tech, said: "Vary Tech has effectively solved the industry’s quality and trust problems through digital traceability and in-depth process synergy."

To address the complex mixtures and downcycling issues that are difficult to solve by physical recycling, Vary Tech positions chemical recycling as a "bottom-line low-carbon resource treatment technology". Vary Tech adopts advanced rotary kiln pyrolysis technology, which has now been updated to the 6th generation, with a maximum daily processing capacity of 150 tons per unit.

This technology can efficiently convert waste plastics into three high-value products: pyrolysis oil, pyrolysis carbon and pyrolysis gas. Among them, pyrolysis oil can be directly sold, or modified and refined into gasoline, diesel, or even further processed into key chemicals such as olefins; pyrolysis carbon can be used as building materials or fuel, or further processed into carbon black; pyrolysis gas can provide heat source for the pyrolysis system, or serve as raw material for green hydrogen and green alcohol production. At present, this technology has been operating stably in industrialization for 5 years, with a cumulative processing volume of 110,000 tons of household waste plastics.

As a core working group member of the chemical recycling project of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, Vary Tech is working alongside international chemical giants such as BASF, Dow, Shell and ExxonMobil. Vary Tech is committed to realizing the closed-loop conversion of pyrolysis oil into raw materials such as naphtha and diesel, which are ultimately used to produce plastic monomers such as polyethylene and polypropylene, truly achieving the "upcycling" of waste plastics.
Vary Tech’s innovative practice of full-link high-quality closed-loop recycling has contributed Chinese wisdom and strength to the construction of the global circular economy system. In the future, Vary Tech will continue to take technological innovation as the driving force to promote the high-quality development of the global circular economy.
