Vary Tech’s Oxygen-Free Pyrolysis Technology Reappears in South Korea, Opening a New Chapter in Chemical Recycling of Waste Plastics

Recently, RETECH & A-POWDER TECH 2025 (2025 Korea Environmental Exhibition & the 3rd Korea International Powder Technology Exhibition) was held at the Korea International Exhibition Center in Goyang City, South Korea. Vary Tech participated with its oxygen-free pyrolysis technology and system services, contributing to plastic pollution governance in South Korea and across the globe.

Since 2022, South Korea has fully banned the import of plastic waste from overseas, further increasing the pressure of domestic plastic waste treatment. According to the plan of South Korea’s Ministry of Environment, by 2025, the country will reduce plastic waste by 20% and significantly increase the recycling rate of waste plastics from 54% to 70%. In addition, South Korea also plans to fully ban the use of disposable plastic bags by 2030 and cut greenhouse gas emissions caused by plastics by 30%. To achieve these goals, many chemical enterprises in South Korea are competing to accelerate the promotion of plastic waste governance.

With nearly 20 years of dedication to solid waste resource utilization, Vary Tech’s self-developed oxygen-free pyrolysis technology has a solid industrialization foundation. Over 100 sets of this technology have been applied globally, and a single set of continuous oxygen-free pyrolysis technology equipment can process up to 240 tons per day.

In 2019, Vary Tech successfully realized the industrial operation of oxygen-free pyrolysis technology in China’s first industrial project for chemical recycling of household-source waste plastics. Up to now, this project has operated stably for 5 years, with a total of about 1.1 million tons of domestic waste treated and about 110,000 tons of waste plastics recycled through chemical methods. Currently, this technology and equipment have achieved the 6th-generation upgrade, and the maximum daily processing capacity of a single set can reach 150 tons.

As a member of the Korea Waste-to-Energy Industry Association, Vary Tech continues to deepen its presence in the South Korean market. The company, in collaboration with the association, actively promotes plastic pollution governance in South Korea. Since 2023, it has participated in many local industry exhibitions. Its self-developed electromagnetic pyrolysis furnace successfully “went global” to South Korea in 2023 for processing waste plastics and waste tires, marking the successful implementation of its internationalization strategy in the South Korean market. In 2024, Vary Tech attended the 5th Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5) for the “Plastic Treaty” held in South Korea and signed a commercial cooperation agreement on chemical recycling of waste plastics with a well-known South Korean environmental protection enterprise, continuously deepening cooperative relations to promote plastic pollution governance in South Korea and even the world.

Vary Tech’s oxygen-free pyrolysis technology and equipment attracted on-site inquiries from dozens of South Korean environmental protection and energy enterprises, and its applications in the fields of waste plastic, domestic waste, and wire & cable pyrolysis recycling became the focus of attention. The newly launched ART series made its appearance in three versions (E/S/P). With its innovative engineering design and intelligent control system, it has redefined the technical standards of industrial batch pyrolysis equipment, providing the industry with a revolutionary solution featuring lower operating costs, higher production efficiency, longer equipment service life, higher safety compliance, and a more friendly working environment.

Vary Tech’s chemical recycling technology for waste plastics can already convert waste plastics into high-value pyrolysis oil. In the future, it will realize the perfect “plastic-to-plastic” cycle through a “dual-track parallel” value reconstruction path: on one hand, it will refine and produce high-quality gasoline, diesel, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to effectively replace fossil fuels; on the other hand, it will generate basic chemical monomers such as ethylene and propylene through catalytic cracking, realizing molecular-level regeneration of waste plastics into new materials and truly achieving high-value resource recycling.

As a core member of the Chemical Recycling Project of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, Vary Tech is working side by side with international chemical giants such as BASF and Dow to build a global “chemical recycling closed-loop” ecosystem.
