Xi'an Jiaotong University Qian Xuesen College and Tongwei Research Institute Join Hands with Vary Tech and VarySunny to Co-establish Carbon Nanomaterials Inspection and Testing Center

On August 5, 2025, a delegation including Yang Sen, Executive Vice Dean of Xi'an Jiaotong University Qian Xuesen College, Tian Fanghua and Lu Rui'e, professors from the School of Physics, as well as Li Jun, Dean of Tongwei Research Institute, and Chang Liming, Deputy Dean, visited Hunan Vary Tech Co., Ltd. for inspection and exchanges. They were received by Ming Guoying, Chairman of Vary Tech, Song Zhen, Deputy General Manager of Vary Tech and Deputy General Manager of VarySunny, and Chen Liping, General Manager of VarySunny. Both parties conducted in-depth discussions on how to accelerate the transformation of carbon nanotube technology achievements and reached an intention to jointly establish a carbon nanomaterials inspection and testing center.



As a cutting-edge material with great potential, carbon nanotubes have broad application prospects in reinforcing composite materials, improving electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity. Relying on its top-notch scientific research strength, Xi'an Jiaotong University Qian Xuesen College is actively promoting the industrialization of related technologies. In 2025, Xi'an Jiaotong University Qian Xuesen Industrial Innovation Center was established, focusing on pilot verification and achievement transformation, and exploring an environmentally friendly and efficient new mode of carbon nanotube production.

This inspection is a key step for Xi'an Jiaotong University to accurately connect scientific research forces with industrial needs. Professor Yang Sen and his delegation visited Vary Tech's low-carbon exhibition hall, pilot base and laboratory, and gained an in-depth understanding of the company's profound accumulation in the field of circular economy and plastic recycling.

As a pioneer in the field of circular economy, Vary Tech has formed a dual-track development model of "physical recycling" and "chemical recycling". The company has not only realized the industrial operation of chemical recycling with an annual processing capacity of 220,000 tons of domestic waste plastics, but also ensured the efficient and high-value utilization of waste plastics through the closed-loop PCR recycling of waste household appliance plastics and the traceability system.

VarySunny, a joint venture between Vary Tech and Kumho Sunny, focuses on the credible traceable recycling and high-value recycling of waste plastics. The first-phase project has achieved an annual capacity of 50,000 tons in crushing, cleaning and granulation. In 2025, the company entered a new stage of digital intelligence, independently developed a full-chain IoT smart platform system, and built a full-process credible traceable PCR material system.



At the symposium, Ming Guoying, Chairman of Vary Tech, introduced the company's layout in the field of plastic recycling and the corporate philosophy of "Harmonize with everything, coexist with the world"; Li Jun, Dean of Tongwei Research Institute, shared the progress of the "1331N" project, especially the breakthroughs in carbon nanotube modified plastic technology; Professor Yang Sen also introduced the solid foundation of industry-university-research cooperation between Xi'an Jiaotong University and Hunan.

The participants conducted in-depth discussions on issues such as circular economy, carbon nanotube material preparation equipment, and carbon nanotube modified plastic technology. Finally, in order to ensure the quality standards and industrialization process of carbon nanotube materials, all parties reached an important consensus – to jointly establish a carbon nanomaterials inspection and testing center.



This cooperation between Xi'an Jiaotong University, Tongwei Research Institute, Vary Tech and VarySunny is a successful example of in-depth integration of industry, university and research. It effectively integrates the innovative resources of universities and the industrial advantages of enterprises, and jointly explores the huge potential of carbon nanotubes in the fields of circular economy and new materials. This cooperation will not only inject new vitality into the industrialization of university scientific research achievements, but also contribute to building a greener and more efficient industrial ecology, and jointly write a new chapter in the development of carbon nanotube industry.
